About Us 

End Of Life Options DC is a non-profit organization dedicated to furthering the purposes of the D.C. Death with Dignity Law and to provide education, resources and support for patients, families, volunteers and health care providers who seek to ensure that patients facing end of life decisions can exercise their options under the DC law.

Katalin Roth

Founder and Board Member

Katalin Roth, JD, MD is a board certified physician practicing internal medicine, geriatrics and palliative care in Washington, DC. She graduated from Barnard College, Yale Law School and Yale School of Medicine and did her residency training at Temple University. She practiced medicine in Philadelphia for 15 years before moving the the DC area in 1998.

Jane Euler

Founder and Board Chair

Jane Euler is a practicing serious illness companion and end of life doula as CoFounder of Present for You. She received her MS in Palliative Care from the University of Maryland, Baltimore.  Jane has been featured as a speaker at numerous conferences and has become one of the leading voices in the role of doulas in caring for people with serious illness. In addition, she has extensive experience as a bedside attendant for those choosing medical aid in dying. She believes in and advocates for personhood, choice, and autonomy for all those facing the end of life.  Jane is a compassionate companion who builds harmonious spaces for the families she supports.​​

Diane Rehm

Board Member

Diane Rehm is a Peabody Award winning journalist with over 4 decades on NPR as the host of the Diane Rehm Show. She has recieved numerous awards, including the National Humanities Award which was presented by President Obama. She is the author of When My Time Comes, a companion book to the PBS documentary of the same name.

Monica Knorr

Board Treasurer

Monica Knorr is a Clinical Social Worker and an End of Life Doula. Her parents were early supporters of Derek Humphrey and she has been interested in medical aid in dying for as long as she can remember. In New York, She served on the Compassion in Dying board and worked with individuals ending their lives outside the law. When Monica retired to Vermont, she worked with the group of staunch advocates for passage of a death with dignity law. When they succeeded, they formed Patient Choices Vermont to support the law.

Rachel Loreto

Board Secretary

Rachel Loreto is a Clinical Social Worker and an End Of Life Doula. After having companioned her aunt through her Medical Aid in Dying journey, she discovered a passion for end-of-life work. She works bedside with patients and their families considering and completing Medical Aid in Dying in Vermont. Rachel is committed to compassionately supporting people by empowering them with choice at the end of their lives.

Jon Treem

Board Member

Jonathan Treem, MD is the Regional Director of Palliative Care and Hospice Medicine at the Mid Atlantic Permanente Medical Group. In this role, he oversees the development and delivery of palliative care resources to Kaiser Permanente members in the DMV. Prior to this, he was the physician lead for the Palliative Care Clinic at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Center. In both roles he has served as a prescriber and service facilitator for aid-in-dying practice and an advocate for the ethical promulgation of services to qualifying individuals.

Robert Jayes

Board Member

Robert Jayes, MD, FACP is a geriatrician and palliative medicine specialist with over 35 years of experience in end of life care.  He has been a nursing home and hospice medical director and is currently medical director of the George Washington Medical Faculty Associates House Call Program.  He is a Professor of Medicine at George Washington University where he teaches medical students, residents, and fellows about eldercare and end-of-life-care

J. Andrew Sumner

Board Member

J. Andrew (Andy) Sumner, MD practiced emergency medicine for forty years. At Johns Hopkins, he served as an emergency department chairman for 12 years and faculty for 18 years.

Throughout his practice, the dignity of his patients was always of utmodst importance. He has been interested in right-to-die issues for many years. When he moved back to DC in 2022, he renwed his medical license in order to be able to provide Medical Assistance in Dying to DC residents.

Diane Naughton

Board Member

Diane Naughton is a former health care administrator and documentary filmmaker. She collaborated with Diane Rehm and Joe Fab on the PBS documentary "When My Time Comes," which solidified her commitment to patient autonomy and choice at the end of life.

Dixcy Bosley

Board Member

As an early epidemic AIDS nurse, later family nurse practitioner and hospice nurse, Dixcy Bosley has witnessed profound  suffering at the end of life. To combat clinical dispair, serving as an "end of life activist" brings her joy and healing. She is passionate about "walking folks home" honoring their unique goals of care. Every life is precious and deserves supportive and compassionate advocacy.

Stella Dawson

Board Member

Stella Dawson was a journalist for over three decades and reported on economics, governance and corruption.  Her wife Mary Klein's advocacy for medical aid in dying was instrumental in the passage of D.C.'s Death with Dignity law, and Mary became the first known person when she was dying of cancer in 2018 to take medications in the District for a peaceful death.
